Seek His face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek

I love praying Scripture. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is pray some of the Psalms that extol God’s character. These chapters and verses get my heart and mind ready for taking up my cross and following the Lord. I’ve actually been praying that more recently. I used to ask that the Lord come with me on my journey through the day until I realized it’s not MY journey in the first place. So, I’ve been asking the Lord, through His Word and prayer that He take me wherever HE’S going, what HE desires for me to do today. Praying Scripture is a wonderful opportunity to gain a proper perspective on going where the Lord wants to take us on a given day. Read what David says in Psalm 27:8:

“My heart says of You, ‘Seek His face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

Notice the beautiful call and immediate response David proclaims. “You said seek My face! So, that’s what I’m gonna do, ‘Your face Lord I will seek.’” No hesitation, no pause to ponder, no ego that says “I’ll seek Your face when You give me what I want.” It’s humble submission to the love and care of a good and holy God that loves to be with His children. So, try praying some Psalms this week. Here are some things you can pray about in your time praying Scripture:

  • Praise God for His incredible character (Ps. 19)
  • Proclaim that there is No One and No Thing like Yahweh, God (Ps. 86)
  • Thank God for keeping you safe and secure even through rough times (Ps. 23)
  • Declare His amazing love, mercy, and grace to you, a sinner (Ps. 32, 51, 103)
  • Ask the Lord to help you seek His face and become more intimate with Him through prayer (Ps. 27)
  • Be reminded of how powerful and sufficient God’s Word is for you this week (Ps. 115, 119)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that brings life to our hearts and souls. Thank You that You desire to be with us…intimately connecting with us through prayer and Scripture. I pray that You would help me focus this week on how life-giving and powerful Your Word is as I pray it silently and aloud. May You give me insight into what Scripture You desire for me to focus on and pray to You and with You. In the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
